Jó reggelt, szevasztok …
Slowly – and finally … – my Mexican Adventure Series coming to an end. For todays’ post, I have my very first hotel review here for you guys about Riu Palace – Playacar
Probably this place was the nicest, let’s say the most luxurious hotel I’ve ever stayed in – till now. But I have to admit – … and will show you in the next post too – I preferred the one in Tulum more.
Unfortunately, we only spent there 3 nights in the Jr. Suite which is not that much. Especially cuz this place is huge, and by huge I mean huuuge. With your All – Inclusive bracelets you can visit the other RIU Hotels and enjoy their services too, and you can eat in all of their restaurants as well – … and yepp, and that means beside Palace, there’s 5 more.
… and the area called Playacar itself is amazing too, has some Mayan ruins, the small streets all across the jungle. I could easily wander around for a whole afternoon. But of course it’s impossible to discover everything if you only have 2 full days basically – and during one afternoon there’s a tropical storm…
Maybe if you spend like 10 days there, then probably you can reeeally enjoy the complex, the ocean – sunbeds are free to use, the 4 swimming pools, many bars with great cocktails, the entertainment – from different activities to live music, night clubs, try all the restaurant, spa, golf, gym and literally everything you can imagine and wish for are there.
Hotel RIU Palace, Playacar…
Even in the rooms if you don’t feel like moving at all for a day, you still have everything. Best bit of all is the Alcohol Dispenser + mini-fridge full of soft drinks – free of charge with All Inclusive. There’s the jacuzzi, 24 h room service, wifi, and the view to the Caribbean or to the garden – we got the garden, but whatever.
Jr. Suite…
Thank you Octavio for all the hard work you do
The buffet breakfast – lunch and dinner were all amazing an so many things to choose from – menus in 4 languages just in case – … Traditional Mexican food, international goodies, lots of fruits, freshly squeezed juices and smoothies – green juice, yusss! … – amazing meats from chorizo to jamon, seafood, cheese, cold – warm … everything you can imagine – and there’s absolutely no chance they are running low on something. All the service areas were beautifully organized and decorated. Staff is very efficient and hard working in the restaurants and even in the other areas of the hotel – such as housekeeping. Although I find it a bit waaay too much that we left the room around 8 pm to have dinner and walk around in the beach for a while, and we got back around 11pm and the room was tidy and clean again. Never experienced this before, in a way it’s a nice thing … – on the other hand, it caused few funny stories too, but let’s leave those for later…
Few pictures from the buffet…
The Beach…
During my stay in Mexico unfortunately, it was a pretty bad sargassum situation. I still found it breathtakingly beautiful – first time I saw the Caribbean… – but of course everything would’ve been even more beautiful with crystal clear water and white sand … I got a bit pissed of when I arrived back to the UK and literally like 3 days later I was browsing through my Instagram and saw some comments saying the sargassum is gone… 3 days. Anyway, next time… And there’s gonna be a next time for sure, cuz during my stay here in RIU Palace, Playacar I fell in love with it, although it is a bit pricey but if you want to chill in a beach resort for a week it’s totally worth it.

Nice review. Mrs Bear and I really liked the trip we took to Puerto Vallata, on the Pacific Coast. We stayed near the marina which has a ring of about 25 restaurants More Aztec than Mayan. Enjoy your write-ups
